Sage Insights Features ACT Software

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I know it has been a while since I have posted here, I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of the things I’ve been working on regarding the ACT software.

orlando_gaylord_small.jpgIn fact, last week was the Sage Insights conference in Orlando Florida. Now Sage, makes a lot of products, the company has something like 3,000 employees! It also served as a time for the ACT product group and addon developers to show their wares, and get you familiar with forthcoming products. Let me tell you there are exciting things on the horizon.

One of the things I like most about these events is finally putting faces with names, or getting to visit folks you haven’t seen in a while, or ever.

One of the people I have worked with and finally got to meet in person is Ingo Lange. He is a class act, and has done very well by my customers. He knows contact management, Ingo runs a company in Germany that makes all kinds of ACT addon products. He was a guest on a teleseminar I hosted back in December where he talked about his TAPI product which integrates ACT the free Skype telephony
software as well as your regular phone, or phone system. He continues to add features to it, making ACT users more efficient.

Just a word to the wise, make sure your machine has 1GB of RAM to give it enough breathing room to run, the program is doing quite a bit behind the scenes, and needs the memory for you not to notice a performance difference after installing.

I’ll be in touch about some other products you’ve not yet seen. I’m in the middle of making some special arrangements so I can’t say more than that. Keep an eye on the blog for more info, or if you’ve
signed up for notification with the popup box on this page, I’ll drop you a note with an update.

In the meantime, if you haven’t done so, be sure to check out the TAPI product Ingo has put together for the ACT software, and post your comments on the blog.

  1. Hi Act Blogger, I’m not sure if you are the appropriate person to ask, but I’m still using Act 6 (2004) on my PC for my small business. I’m very happy with the product. My only issue is that since upgrading from Windows 98 to XP, is appears I can no longer send email using Act internal email. I can receive email through ACt, but just not send. I tried loading the software with my laptop that also is on XP, and the same problem exists. I suspect but am not 100% certain that the problem is that XP never picked up some nuance of 98 that allows Act6 to deal with the problem. I tried upgrading to ACT 2005, but it was nightmare. Are you aware if other users or perhaps yourself have reported similar problem, and what the solution is. Running Windows 98 is not an option.

Also, I use everything in Act except for the Sales.logging features. In other words, I use the word processor, macros, email, scheduler, etc. Subsequent versions ommitted some of these features or made it cumbersome to navigate because there were more clicks involved. With this in mind, do you think it’s worth me trying 2008?

  2. Cary-

Good question. There are many people who have been in your shoes.

Might I encourage you to consider this post when it comes to “ACT 2008 should I upgrade” questions.

As wonderful as it is, and as loyal as people are to the “ACT classic” interface, ACT 6 is no longer supported. This is my concern for a businesses running *any* business application. If you have have downtime with the system, what impact would it have on your business? If you have to get support, how difficult will it be?

I’m not a big fan of fear based selling… and I’m not interested in selling anything here (maybe except an idea or concept…). The truth is, if one uses a contact management system properly in business, it becomes invaluable. Make sure you have someone on hand to assist you with it when needed.

There are no macros in ACT 2008, you might consider http://www.macros.com they have an affordable product that does a good job in any windows application.

Hope that helps… Don’t forget to review that post to before upgrading your ACT database .
