Shortcuts: I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about an often forgotten feature in the ACT Software, and thought I would explain in this video how this feature has changed for the ACT 2008 version, what I like about it, and what I don’t like so much about it.

I agree the short cuts are a great approach to linking contacts to documents. Having multiple copies of the same document on your system is a bad practice. I also agree that Sage should have implemented a drag and drop method of linking shortcuts.

I am starting to look more fondly again at attachment shortcuts. Having attachments in separate folder(s) makes the database leaner and meaner but also can afford more organization and access too. I like the thought of creating four or five different folders for different attachment “types” where attachments of a given type are stored in that associated shared folder. Types may include memos, other info, maps, personal. This allows others to easily access those attachments across the network and easier to find if organized and filed into folders by type. By placing them on the server too they can get backed up during normal system backup.
